Heru Susetyo Nuswanto was admitted to Indonesian Bar Association in 1999. He has spent more than 17 years practicing law in the area of criminal law, human rights cases, constitutional law, Islamic civil law cases and medical law. Graduated from University of Indonesia with Bachelor of Law (in 1996) and Master of Social Work (in 2003), from Northwestern Law School Chicago USA (in 2003) with Master of International Human Rights Law, and a PhD from Mahidol University, Bangkok- Thailand (in 2014). He is currently conducting research on victimology and terrorism (lead to a PhD in Victimology at Tilburg University, The Netherlands). Instead of practicing law, Heru Susetyo Nuswanto is also and academician. He has served as lecturer at Faculty of Law Universitas Indonesia since 1996.
